c. A photographer's body of work might be the thing that is depicted in their photograph; it is the subject. Though, many photographers have different ideas about what their body of work might be. For one, it might be colour. But for others, it might be line or tone.
d. The Farm security administration (FSA) of the US Department if Agriculture subsidised photographers and sent them across the nation to record conditions. One of these photographers were Dorothea Lange.
e. Subjective Frame analysis:
- My first impression is that this photograph is taken in a very busy place where many miners are searching for gold
- It invokes an emotion of sadness, probably invoked through the black and white. It reminds me of the site of the Ark of the Covenant in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
- I do like the artwork, as it captures how frantic it must be to be looking for something that another thousand people are looking for.
- I believe the artist wants to invoke emotions of stress through the depiction of so many people
- I believe he made the artwork because he wanted to document the sheer size of a gold mine
f. No, I do not think that the artwork would hold our attention and speak to us so strongly if they were not beautiful, because anyone could go and take a photo of the gold mine. The beauty of the photograph is created though a well thought out composition and the use of black and white. The composition is great because the artist has used a high angle shot to capture the sheer size and amount of people working at the gold mine.
g. The rise of television has had an impact on photojournalism as photos are no longer needed to convey a story. Photojournalism used to have a place as the only form of media was newspapers, and only photos can be used in newspapers. Now, the television uses videos and reporters to tell a story.
h. Salgado's work was very worthwhile in my opinion, as he was involved in photojournalism was for good. He wanted his pictures to inform, provoke discussion and raise money. This, I believe, is a very good cause to do photojournalism. His photos also did successfully do what he wanted, as the gold miners picture illustrates the hard, physical labour of attempting to make a living.
