Metering is the way the camera works out how bright photo is. There are usually three or four different types of metering modes on a camera and they either measure the overall brightness in a shot or the brightness of a particular spot or zone in the photo. Using different metering modes you can achive different exposures from the same angle. Certain metering modes should be used for different scenes.
