Structural Frame Analysis

Elements of Design:

Line: Line is evident in this photograph in the square lines in the background. Line is also evident on the knives in the background and the round outline of the electric frypan

Shape/Form: Shape is evident in this photograph in the round shape of the frypan. Shape is also involved where the bananas curve around and lead you to the large, black cooker.

Space: Space can be seen in this photograph where the foreground and middle ground and the background has a lot of space and is quite empty.

Value: there is value in this photograph where the foreground is very dark and it lightens up toward the back of the image.

Texture: There are many soft textures in this image; especially in the soft, shiny background, the bananas and the cooker. There is one rough texture in this image in the avocado.

Colour/ Tone: although there is not much colour in this image as it is black and white, there is a soft, dark tone in it created by the many dark surfaces in the foreground of the image.

Principles of Design:

Emphasis: there is a big emphasis placed on the largest thing in the image, the electric frypan. As there is an emphasis placed on this, your eye is then led to the second-most emphasised thing in the image, the bananas.

Balance: There is balance in this image as the knives in the background are directly in the centre, and that the frypan and the bananas are on either side of the image.

Unity: There is unity in this image in the recurring circular shape of the frypan and the bananas.

Contrast: There is a great deal of contrast in this image in that the background is very light and the front of the image is very dark. Therefore, the back and front of the image is contrasted

Movement/ Rhythm: There is not much movement in this image as it is still life. There is some rhythm as your eye is led to different objects as you move through the image; you are constantly being led to a new part of the image.

Pattern/ Repetition: There is a pattern of the round shapes in this image in the frypan, the avocado and the bananas.

In this image there are symbols for food; obviously the bananas and avocados are food, but also symbols for things that prepare food; the frypan and the knives.

In this image I placed a frypan, an avocado, some bananas in a bowl and a set of knives directly next to a window in order to light one side of the image and leave the rest darker.

Techniques used in this image is using a low ISO in order to create a darker tone and using natural light to illuminate only one-half of the image.

The art movement or style of this image is still life.

In this image, the rule of thirds is being utilised. Leading lines is also being used in this image.
